East Ayrshire sprint at Kames 01-02/08/09

.Highlight of the 2009 season was the British Sprint Championship round at Kames.  Double the entry seen at some of the Kames rounds and a superb collection of very fast machinery made this an event not to miss.

We were extremely lucky with the weather throughout the weekend - the forecast earlier in the week suggested it could have been a complete washout.  In the end, Saturday had a few brief showers, but almost everyone got dry runs to record their best times.  The XoomSpeed duo  recorded very similar times of 77.48 for David and 77.90 for Stephen.  That was a new PB for David, but still a disappointing 2s shy of Stephen's previous record.  There didn't seem to be anything wrong with the car, so probably just a case trying too hard.

Saturday evening brought a great party and some truly nasty weather.  Hard to believe it was early August.

Luckily for us, the weather cleared up for Sunday, and although the track was still damp for the first practice runs, everything dried out and the sun shone for the rest of the day.  Again we struggled to equal previous best times, but 84.30 for David was only 0.16s short of the class win, and 0.2 faster than the class record at the beginning of the season.  It's progress indeed to be disappointed with a run like that.

Driving from the rest of the competitors was spectacular.  Nick Algar beating the long standing top speed record with 121mph through the speed trap was impressive, but bettered by seeing the outright course record taken down to 71.60 by Stewart Rob Jnr.  A great show all round.
